At approximately 22:15 on Monday, May 29, Memorial Day, Quint 611 responded to a call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Sterling Blvd at Maple Ave. They arrived on scene to find an unconscious patient in the North bound lanes of Sterling Blvd and assisted Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad in treating the patient. Due to the severity of the injuries Engine 618 was dispatched to set-up the landing zone for helicopter transport. Deputy Chief 18 responded to assist with command. AirCare transported the patient to an area hospital.

Cascades 10K Fire Chase & 911 Fun Run
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department hosted the Fourth Annual Cascades 10K Fire Chase and 911 Fun Run on Saturday, May 27. The race began at the Lowes Island Community Center in Potomac Falls, VA and was run throughout the Lowes Island Community. After the race was over, participants enjoyed live music from WMZQ, a steak and eggs breakfast provided by Outback Steakhouse, coffee and bagels courtesy of Starbucks, ice cream from Turkey Hill, and fresh fruit from Wegmans.

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Awards Banquet
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Company would like to congratulate the recipients of the 2006 Fire Instructor of the Year award, both past chiefs of the SVFC, Irv Chilcoat and Jim Kiser. Members also received length of service awards at the banquet, hosted by Loudoun County Fire-Rescue & Emergency Management and the Fire-Rescue Commission Recruitment and Retention Committee.

EMS Event at Dulles Town Center
Thanks to all that attended the EMS event held on Saturday May 6th at the Dulles Town Center in Sterling, VA. Personnel from the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department were on hand to answer questions of the public as well as show of the apparatus and tools used daily.
SVFD Attends 74th Annual Apple Blossom Parade
On May 5th, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department rolled Engine/Tanker 618 out the door to the 74th Annual Apple Blossom Fireman’s parade. The crew which consisted of Master Tech. R. Claar Sr., D/O R. Mann, Firefighter C. Howley and Probationary Firefighter R. Claar Jr, who spent the week prior preparing the apparatus for the parade. All of their hard work paid off as the crew brought home 1st Place in the Engine/Tanker category. Congratulations to the crew for their success! (B.Cunningham)
