On the 29th of October, for I believe the 5th plus year in a row, the Sterling Volunteer Fire company had the honor or leading the Allegheny Circle community around their block to kick off their Halloween and Chili Cook off. The people of that community wished to thank all of our members for the job that we do and the assistance that we have lent them over the years. I assured them that we would be there for the next 5 years and that we appreciated them counting on us, the volunteers. Thanks to all that stepped up and helped during this event. (D.Fierstien)

Route 7 WB Entrapment
On October 19th at 2217 hours Engine 618 was dispatch for wires down on the exit ramp from northbound Sully Road (Rt 28) to westbound Harry Byrd Highway (Rt 7). After being dispatched the call was upgraded to an auto accident with entrapment, car versus telephone pole, bringing Rescue Squad 615, Medic 625 and Engine 606. Upon arriving at the scene E618 verified one trapped victim with electrical and other cables stretching across Harry Byrd Highway in both directions and draped on the car holding the victim. As an added challenge sections of the telephone pole were laying on and suspended above the vehicle. E618 and RS615 personnel staged extrication equipment and M625 readied treatment supplies while waiting for Dominion Virginia power to secure the electrical hazard. Personnel then freed the trapped individual, transported the person to a local hospital, and returned to service in short order.
Set your clocks and change your batteries
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Company would like to remind the residents of Sterling to replace the batteries in their smoke detectors as they reset their clocks on October 29th. If you need assistance, or if you need a smoke detector, please contact your local fire station. (Please don’t call 911 unless it is an emergency.)
Homecoming Parades
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Company had the privilege of leading the homecoming parades for Potomac Falls High School on Thursday, October 12th and Park View High School on Friday, October 13th. Thanks to Crew 5 for handling Potomac Falls and thanks to those who came from home to handle Park View.

At approximately 1930 (7:30) this evening, October 4th, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department made their way to the Sully Elementary School to assist with a fund raiser to build the Discovery Park playground. Their job is to provide a ladder to the roof where the principal will spend 1-2 nights (depending on the number of volunteers who sign up). Thanks Crew 6!
