Auto Accident with Entrapment for Crew 5
At 02:28am on December 1st, after a quiet night, Engine Company (Quint) 18 and Medic 25 were alerted for an auto accident on westbound Harry Byrd Highway (Route 7) near the entrance ramp from Northbound Sully Road (Route 28). Within seconds the incident was upgraded to an auto accident with entrapment, with two people confirmed trapped by law enforcement already on scene. This added Squad 615, Rescue Engine 606 (Ashburn), LCFR Battalion 602 and LCFR EMS Battalion 601. Chief 11, Chief 6, and TowerLadder 611 also responded. Units arrived on scene to find three vehicles involved and four patients, with two patients trapped in one vehicle. Additional EMS transport units were called and two life flight helicopters were pre-alerted based on initial information. One patient was quickly transported via ground and one patient refused transport. Crews from Rescue Engine 6 and Quint 18 worked to extricate two patients. The extrication was complicated by the vehicle being stuck between two other vehicles and close to the edge of a bridge. The two patients were freed from the vehicle and transported via ground to the hospital. Command was terminated at 03:20am and all units quickly returned to service.
