Van fire for Crew 5

Just before 2AM on Tuesday, April 1st Engine Company 18 was alerted for a car fire in the area between Countryside and Broad Run Farms. A few minutes later E618 arrived to find a van in a field fully engulfed in flames. A routine car fire had a few moments of excitement for the bystanders as the crew discovered some magnesium (or similar metal) that reacted with the water sending bright white sparks in all directions. While the crew of E618 was being reminded why it’s a good idea to always wear all of your safety gear the crew of E611 came over to Cascades to investigate a reported odor of gas.
