Just before 9pm on Wednesday, August 15th the volunteers of Crew 4, staffing Engine and Tower 611, Engine 618, and Captain 611 were dispatched along with Engine and Rescue 439 from Fairfax (Reston – North Point), Reserve Engine 622 and Tower 606 (Ashburn), Medic and Rescue 615 (Sterling Rescue), and Battalion Chief 603 (LCFR) for a report of a vehicle that struck a house in Sterling Park. In cases like this dispatch will send an assignment for a structure fire with an additional rescue unit, due to the possibility of fire and the likely need to shore up damage or rescue a trapped occupant. Sterling units arrived on the scene to find that a vehicle has struck the home but was no longer in the structure, nor was the occupant trapped. As EMS units tended to the driver SVFC checked to make sure there were no other victims or immediate hazards and to assess the damage. Once this was completed many responding units were returned to service. Remaining units stabilized the structure to prevent further collapse until repairs could be made.
